A Different Kind Of Blue
While making art with terminally ill patients at the Mercy Hospice, I came to know Ingi, Eleanoa and Mele, who worked as cleaners and in the hospital kitchen. These women are gorgeous, and yet they work almost invisibly, like so many women working in Auckland’s hospitals, hospices and nursing homes.
I decided to celebrate these friends, and make the invisible well and truly visible by painting “A Different Kind of Blue”…a series of works, some very large, exploring my perceptions of how my life and theirs overlapped for a time. |
